Each year Phoenix Children’s offers college students interested in medicine, an opportunity to volunteer. Along with their normal volunteering, they also get an educational opportuny to look at medical careers with a little more detail. We call these sessions “A Look Inside”. One of the A Look Inside sessions we offered was a “Tour of an Operating Room”.This was a three hour event where a surgeon and his surgical team took the students through all the procedures from start to finish of a surgery. Everyone suited up into the full surgical scrubs, scrubbed in, surgical drapes and gloves. Then when they were ready for surgery they each got to use a video camera probe to explore a mock knee replica. The full experience really created many smiles to this eager to learn group of college students.
