Blood donation is one of the most meaningful ways to support patient care. Every day, hospitals—including Mayo Clinic—rely on a stable blood supply to perform complex surgeries, deliver cancer treatments, respond to emergencies, and care for patients with chronic conditions requiring transfusions.
In March, Mayo Clinic in Arizona’s CEO, Dr. Rick Gray, led by example, by donating blood to raise awareness about the critical need for donors. His participation underscores a powerful message: saving lives is a shared responsibility, and every donation matters.
The impact of this effort is significant. In 2025, Mayo Clinic in Arizona hosted 22 blood drives, collecting 707 units of blood—enough to support up to 2,121 patients. Through our ongoing partnership with Vitalant, staff have convenient opportunities to donate right on the Phoenix and Scottsdale campuses.
Each donation has the potential to help multiple patients, making it one of the most personal and powerful gifts you can give. Consistent participation ensures that lifesaving blood is available when patients need it most.
By stepping forward, you may never meet the person whose life you help save—but your impact is immediate, profound, and lasting.
