Summer Intensive Volunteer Program at Phoenix Children’s

University of Arizona Simulation Lab Field Trip

On June 28, ten Summer Intensive Volunteers were able to enjoy the guided tour of the University of Arizona Medical School Simulation Lab. This is one of my favorite Look Inside sessions that we do for summer volunteers. One of the areas that we visited was where they teach the Medical Students  Ultra Sound Technology. It was great being able to use the Ultra Sound machine to find issues that the human simulator was having. Very interesting and at the end of the tour the SIV’s were able to have a question and answer session on the in’s and out’s of getting into medical school.     Joyce Wentland    Volunteer Services

Summer Intensive Volunteer Program

The college students in the Summer Intensive Volunteer (SIV) program are busy in a number of various volunteer roles.  They complete a minimum of 24 shifts in eight weeks.  Many have
chosen health care as their future vocation and the program provides a glimpse into the
pediatric health care setting where they have the opportunity to interface with patients and families, assist staff in playrooms and other parts of the hospital, and connect with other
members of health care teams.  Due to COVID the program was reduced this year to just 20 college students.  SIV Samantha Tiburcio is a Playroom volunteer, pictured here cleaning toys, one of the many tasks of all Playroom volunteers.
